Turtles and sick kids

In our house we do what we can. We have children with illnesses which means sometimes they are well and sometimes they are not. Sometimes one is well and the other is not. It’s not always easy and it’s not always fun, but the mantra is that we do what we can when we can. We try and give the children experiences and achievements each day so that even when they are well, they feel like life is not a waste or a burden. We try and make it as fun as we can.

Today we learned about turtles. We watched a video about a sea turtle hospital in the Florida Keys which taught us about some of the problems and illnesses they have as a species and how humans are trying to help them. You can see the video here.

We also learned how turtles have huge lungs and sometimes breathe through their bottoms. You can see a video about that here.

After helping me make play dough we looked at some diagrams of the inside of a turtle, focusing on the skeleton. We used an upturned bowl to make a skeleton out of the dough to help study the parts a little closer and have some fun.
